We’ve had a few visitors share their Flickr pictures with us, that you can see about halfway down the right scrollbar as well as via our Flickr pool here. Feel free to join the pool and contribute. Your pics will show up as well!

Added Tagging to NWEN
We’re trying something a little different since we’ve updated our website code to the latest version. “Tagging” is a feature that allows us to add keywords to each article. If a keyword or phrase is assigned to more than one article, the tag cloud (note the new feature at the bottom of the right column of our site) font grows larger and darker. This feature will also help our site get picked up by the search engines and, hopefully, allow more hits!
As always, we’re open to any suggestions, criticism, ideas, etc. anyone might have so drop us a line!

Submit Your Events to NWEN
If you have an event, gathering, etc. or know of one such as a band playing at one of the many restaurants in the Near West End, please feel free to let us know through our “got news?” contact form. We’ll be happy to post NWEN-related events on our calendar.

RTD’s “Community Blogs”?
John Sarvay of Buttermilk and Molasses offers a nice editorial on the Times Dispatch’s article about their own “community blogs”, published today.
The 11 online community sites at inRich.com. While it would be easy (and completely appropriate) to wonder where the pitch was six months ago when the sites were launched, or lament their relatively dismal performance-to-date, my inner optimist hopes that the TD’s community pages find their footing.

Yea, Us!
I haven’t posted today…obviously. :) Jonah’s been doing a great job keeping the site up to date!
But I did come across RVABlogs mentioning us on their website as being #6 out of 21 on their Conscriptions & Attritions list.
So, yea, us!

Thanks!
Gathered from Haduken.com:
Worst community blog: The second place winner(?) was Near West End News, which actually came with some helpful tips:
“Needs more editorial and less news clipping, cutting, and pasting.” Don’t be afraid to say how you feel, NWEN. Goodness knows the rest of us do.
If anyone wants to help out, please let us know.. Considering we work two or more jobs and barely have time for our families, let alone this site, we could use all the help we can get! :-) But we definitely appreciate the tips. If only we had more time…

free is good
Since he’ll probably be too modest say anything about it here, let me point out that one of the engines behind the Near West End News, Kory Mohr, is also the engine behind Richmond Free Wireless (which is profiled in this week’s Brick Weekly).

Thanks for the Plugs!
We’ve received numerous plugs throughout the RVA blogging community and just wanted to pass along our thanks and appreciation. We have some pretty big shoes to fill and hope to do just as well for our community as the other community blogs have wonderfully done. Read more >

Welcome to the Near West End News! We put this site together to focus on issues specific to our area, in the mold of similar sites such as Church Hill People’s News and West of the Boulevard News from Richmond and Charlottesville’s cvillenews.com.
