UR Feels Credit Crunch
As reported in today’s Times-Dispatch, the University of Richmond is one of about 1,000 schools affected by Commonfund’s Short Term Fund’s decision to partially freeze withdrawals this week. Wachovia Corp is trustee for the $9.3 billion fund.
According to the article:
Herb Peterson, UR’s vice president for business and finance, called the action “concerning but understandable.”
UR has $100 million invested with the fund. He said UR has access to
$40 million of that amount now “and we’ll get the rest of it.”Peterson said the action was necessary to prevent a run on the fund
that would force a sell-off of investments. He did not expect it to
cause a problem for UR.“It was the right thing to do to avoid taking losses that would have cost all of us money,” he said.

Follow RVA Dog Play Group on Twitter
Hi all. As you may know, the NWEN blog has a Twitter account that sends updates to everyone following it every time we post an article on the blog. Great way for those in the “Twitterverse” to keep in touch with news and events going on around the NWEN community.
I’d like to also mention a new Twitter group account that allows follows to send dog-related playgroups and events to the group’s followers. Been using it a lot to let everyone know about related events around the NWEN area. However, it’s cool to use for letting everyone know about events all around the RVA metro area too!
The name of the group is RVADogPlayGrp. Simply follow it and you’ll have to the ability to let everyone know events by sending a “DM” (direct message) to the group. More details/how-to’s here.
Happy “play dog grouping”! :)

RICHMOND, VA - Those wondering what lies inside of one of Richmond’s most stately mansions can now not only stop wondering, but also can own some of the contents themselves. An impressive collection of antique and reproduction furniture and fine art amassed over the years by the Brown family of Windemere Mansion on Cary Street Road will be auctioned by Motley’s Auction & Realty Group on April 2, 2008.
Built in the 1860s, the three-story mansion nestled on 3.1 acres was renovated and enlarged in 1907 to 11,000 square feet. The seven-bedroom, eight-bathroom house was highly praised for its interior décor and collection of fine art and furniture. Many of those items, ranging from an enviable collection of American and French antique furniture, fine art, sterling silver, Oriental rugs from small to palace size, and china and porcelain, are now being de-accessioned by the Brown family and will go home with the highest bidder on April 2.
