Bon Secours deal includes expansion to Westhampton School property

A new chapter in the Westhampton School property story:

The Bon Secours sponsorship of the new Washington Redskins training camp also includes a deal with the City of Richmond for Bon Secours to lease the Westhampton School property for hospital expansion.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that plans are for a 75,000-square-foot medical office building and clinical space employing approximately 120 full-time workers. (“Neighbors seek involvement in Westhampton school plans”)

According to a letter sent Monday to employees and others by Bon Secours Virginia Health System CEO Peter J. Bernard, the city will lease Bon Secours the school property, which has sat unused by students since 2009, for 60 years with a 40-year renewal option at an annual rate of $5,000…

However, Bon Secours will agree to maintain playing fields adjacent to the property as well as relocate a small “Tot Lot” playground, the letter says.

A Bon Secours spokesperson noted the deal is awaiting approval by the city’s Economic Development Authority and City Council, and insisted there will be opportunities for public input.
