Westhampton Theatre to remain a theatre for forseeable future
To those fretting over the future of the Westhampton Theatre, be reassured by Chris Dovi’s Richmond Magazine story “Community Group: Westhampton Theatre Staying Open”:
The Friends of the Westhampton formed at the beginning of summer, and late last month, the group’s leaders held conversations with Regal Entertainment Group, which owns and operates the movie theater, gaining not only assurances that the theater will remain open in the short term, but time to plan for keeping it around for the long term.

I’m glad it is staying open. I don’t always want to go to the large chains, I like Westhampton and the Byrd theater.
I love Westhampton because it’s the only place in RVA to see many critically acclaimed but not necessarily popular movies. IF we lose the Westhampton, just one more piece of what makes RVA a place for creative expression is gone.
Having lived in the immediate area (Glenburnie and Tuckahoe Terrace) for 70 years it is terrific to know that the theatre will remain for the foreseeable future. I hope the nearby residents as well as those farther away will continue to support it. Too many of our older neighborhood treasures often go by the wayside. Great news.
