Krispy Kreme Crash Driver Identified, Involved In Second Accident

The driver of the minivan that crossed three lanes of traffic and crashed into Krispy Kreme yesterday has been identified as Varina Baptist Church co-pastor Jay Bertrand. According to a statement from a family member, he suffered a severe back spasm causing the accident.

Bertrand has been charged with reckless driving, as well as driving while under the influence of drugs in a charge stemming from a second accident in which he was involved later that afternoon. The second crash took place at the intersection of Gaskins and Patterson.

The painter knocked from his ladder in the Krispy Kreme incident suffered only minor injuries. (source)
