Westhampton Playground

Several folks have expressed concerns in recent months about the future of the playground on Libbie Avenue, behind what was formerly Richmond Community High School.

In 2009, the school property was in process of being returned from the School Board to the City of Richmond, with the intention of selling it. If that were to happen, the neighborhood risked losing the playground to development – Times-Dispatch. The future of the Westhampton School is still uncertain; the issue was raised at the 1st District meeting last week and there are currently no known plans for its reuse.

Referencing the land-use map amendments shared last week, the current land-use recommended proposal keeps the playground space, and the fields on the Maple Avenue side of the property, designated “Public and Open Space.” The area where the school building is currently located becomes “Mixed Use.”
