Today’s post in the “Why Richmond, Why?” series on Richmond.com tackles the latest news on the development of Staples Mill Centre, located off Staples Mill Road near Broad Street.
Originally proposed in 2006, the $434 million Staples Mill Centre would span nearly eighty acres and include over 2,000 residences, in addition to office and retail space.
The news is that not much is happening. Developer Gumenick Properties, which owns the property, states it is waiting for economic conditions to improve before breaking ground on the project. In the meantime, Staples Mill Centre remains a large, empty field.
