Plaza Azteca Opens in Reynolds Crossing
I drove by Reynolds Crossing the other day and noticed that Plaza Azteca was open. This Mexican restaurant has a big following in the Hampton Roads area, but is new to Richmond. With competators Mexico Horsepen and Casa Grande just down the street, I was curious to see how they’d do. Has anyone had a chance to go by and try it? I’d be curious to hear what you thought — leave a comment.
Based on reviews, it seems the one thing that really differentiates this Mexican restaurant is that they they make their guacamole table side.

the food was awesome and the ultimate margarita was superb and not lacking in tequila at all! They combine the drink with a delicious orange liquer that made the drink very smooth and so tasty. our waitress was very pleasant and smiled the entire time she was at our table even after we asked so many questions about different dishes to try. we tried the freshly made guacamole prepared right at our table, and that did not disappoint either! there was plenty for the two of us and enough to take home for a snack later – it was the best guacamole I have had in a long time and all of the fresh cilantro, onions, avocado’s etc were a nice surprise instead of the usual guac you get at other restaurants that sometime lack in taste. The decor of the restaurant is very eye pleasing and add that to the wonderful fajita’s, quesadillas, and burritos we sampled and you feel like you are dining in Mexico! very authentic food and just a wonderful dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant and hope to return again real soon! so very muy bueno!!!
Thanks for the report Buddy!
I’ve eaten there twice now. It’s a solidly decent restaurant, and decorated better than most other Mexican places around (Mexico, Casa Grande, El Caporal, etc).
The prices were reasonable and the food was good – I mean, not life changing or anything, but decent.
I’ve been twice as well. It’s a big step up from the Casa Grande/Mexico staples that we used to go to to get our fiesta on.
It’s a chain and the menu looks similar to other Mexican restaurants but the quality and quantity of food are superior. The décor is better, plus they don’t rush you in and out. It takes more than 3 minutes for food to show up, which leads one to believe they actually make it fresh.
Since it opened, we go at least once a week! The food is great and the margaritas are the best in town! Service is great too, we always ask for Isabella!
That’s great to know Kathy! I love to know who to ask for.
