Bon Secours St. Mary’s recently announced a master plan with some big ideas.  The plan has 3 phases, looking forward as much as 40 years down the road.  By 2050 the hospital is expected to have tripled in size.

The Times-Dispatch has more:

Phase one — the next five years — calls for expanding the emergency department, building a hospitality house and adding parking.

“These are our three priorities,” said Toni R. Ardabell, the hospital’s chief executive officer.

Work will start this fall on the emergency department, adding an entrance and area for pediatric care and 11 treatment rooms. Also, a helicopter pad will be in place near Paxton and Chase streets by the end of October.

In regards to the former Community High School property, now known as the Westhampton School property, the hospital says it is interested in buying but hasn’t made a decision. The Times-Dispatch says:

Meanwhile, the hospital is looking at two possible sites for a hospitality house with rooms for 14 families and shared kitchen and dining and living rooms. One site fronts Libbie Avenue; the other would be toward the back of the campus at Bremo Road and Maple Avenue.

Out-of-town families now stay in four houses off Libbie Avenue that could be torn down for the hospitality house.
