American Platform Tennis Association Premier Cup to be Held in Richmond at CCV October 15-17
The greatest players in the game of platform tennis will come to Richmond October 15th-17th for the 2010 American Platform Tennis Association Premier Cup. The event will showcase the nation’s top 8 teams at The Country Club of Virginia competing for a $6,000 to $7,000 purse. Platform tennis is an American racquet sport somewhat like a cross between scaled-down tennis and raquetball – the court has a cage, and players are allowed to play off of the walls. It is the only racquet sport that players can enjoy outdoors in cold weather. The “platform” floor is raised up with a heating element underneath to melt ice allow participants to play even in cold weather.
The weekend tourney starts Friday night with an exhibition along w/ an overview of the game and opportunities to learn more about the game and meet some of the high profile players that will be participating in the event starting on Saturday. Saturday’s play will consist of 2 groups of 4 playing within their own group in a round robin format in which each team will play 3 matches w/ the top 2 teams from each group advancing to Sunday’s semi-finals.
