Bon Secours Children’s Hospital Coming to Libbie & Patterson Avenues?

I spoke with City Councilman Bruce W. Tyler, West End 1st District, today about the town meeting he’s holding  tonight at Mary Munford tonight at 6:30 p.m.  All Near West End residents are encouraged to attend.

Tyler says, “Bon Secour St. Mary’s has made it very clear that they are interested [in the Westhampton School property] along with about 10 to 15 other people,” says.  “There is no deal on the table with anybody.”  Yesterday, this blog reported that Bon Secours may be interested in the property for a Children’s Hospital.

Tonight’s meeting is to sort out what the residents want for the area and give everyone a chance to express their opinion.  A representative from Bon Secours will also be at the meeting.

Tyler explains, his primary concern is making sure that the area surrounding the Westhampton School property, meets the needs of the community and makes sense in terms of development:

“I’ve got to try to tie down theLibbie/Grove/Patterson area. Right now there are commerical areas right together with residential. We need to find a way to  make it work together.  There are 7 zoning classes, and 35 special use permits in that area. This is step one, of a multi-part process.”

The Near West End News continues to try to reach Mary Anne Graf, Vice President, Women’s & Children’s Servcies of  Bon Secours Health System, St. Mary’s appointed spokesperson for this project, for a comment,  but as of the time of publication, calls were not returned.

Stay tuned to the Near West End News tomorrow for a report on the meeting’s outcome.
