Local Business Profile: West End Mom Runs Allergy Apparel
I just ran into an old friend on the Internet. That is happening way to much these days. Not so much because I’m going out less, and running into fewer people at the Village Ukrops, but because with all my blogging and Facebooking and Tweeting, the Internet is becoming a place where you can do that — run into old friends.
I met Teresa Marie way back when I used to frequent Plaza Art all the time. Then, I ran into her at a triathlon a few years ago. Now, we are both moms and I’m running into her on the Richmond Mommies Forum. Obviosly, we have lots in common. Now, she’s started her own business selling clothes that warn folks of kids allergies — a super cool idea if you ask me.. Check out this blurb she wrote on her business:
I am a stay at home mother of 2 energetic boys, one with a severe nut allergy. I have recently launched my own business, www.allergyapparel.com River, my inspiration, is almost 4 and attends a preschool that seems to be hosting a special occasion at least once a month. He is the ?rst at his preschool to have a severe nut allergy, so we have been working these past few years to educate his school, staff, and other parents. When we attend school, special occasions, such as birthday parties, visit grandparents, or need to remind a babysitter we wear a shirt to remind the caretaker(s). The shirts and hoodies are fun, functional, and educational. Why skulls and crossbones? Other than the cool factor, they are reminder that nuts, wheat, eggs, dairy, gluten, shell?sh, and other foods, can also be poison to a child. They raise awareness and can be life saving. I love the designs so much that I also created them without an allergy, especially nifty for the siblings.

Is it me or does this blog seem to be getting a little biased towards friends that Jonah knows? I find it ludicrous that someone could post a review (negative or positive) about a company that they’ve never frequented and now another post about a business that receives such high accolades just because Jonah knows this person.
I also find it amusing that the article also has a classified ad on this site.
Maybe Jonah should share opinions on her own blog and keep this one strictly professional.
Gee, Chuck, you sound like Santa musta skipped your house!
I hope you write a letter to the editor of the RT-D noting that they, too, do stories about businesses that advertise in their publication.
Hi Chuck. Thanks for reading.
I ran into Teresa on this website when she posted that classified. That was a FREE classified, andwe don’t get any money from it. So, there isn’t really a conflict of interest. My business partner Kory and I try to profile local businesses as often as we can. Any takers out there? We’d love to feature YOUR business if you are in the Near West End and offer a service our readers would be interested in.
Yes, I know alot of people and if I didn’t cover them there wouldn’t be much content on this site. This is a blog. Not a newspaper. We offer it as our take on the Near West End — our opinion. It is our “own” blog. We offer it as a community service.
We are always looking for more voices, if you or any other readers are interested suppling content for this neighborhood news blog please let us know. Or, if you have a tip or a story idea — just email us.
