Neighbors Beware of Roofing Scams
Henrico Police are warning county residents of a roofing scam that has already cost two residents several thousand dollars.
On July 22, two senior citizens were scammed by two black males who claimed to be roofers. Minimal work was performed, and the two men cashed the checks totaling approximately $5,000. The seniors lived near Wythe and
Monumental avenues in the county’s Near West End.The suspects were believed to be driving a 2000 burgundy Ford Explorer with a possible Virginia license plate of WX-8896.
Anyone with any information about these crimes or suspects is asked to
call Investigator J. M. Adkins, Jr. at (804) 501-5000 or Crimestoppers at (804)
780-1000.

Presumably, these two senior citizens are not bereft of relatives or friends. Why in the world would anyone — senior citizen or not — do business with anyone whose references could not be checked out? The “scammer” and the “scamee” have to have people who know what is happening? The “scammers” need to be caught and prosecuted and the “scamees” and all potential “scamees” and loved ones need to agree to COMMUNICATE before agreeing to work on their homes or writing checks for said work. Honestly, we all just need to remember to care about one another.
