Highland Springs High School Coach Leaves for UR
The University of Richmond football saga continues….
Highland Springs High School football coach Scott Burton has resigned to take a position as an assistant to newly hired coach Mike London at the University of Richmond.
Burton has been the Springers’ coach for nine years.
A 1995 graduate of UR, Burton was a four-year letterman at safety and ranks second behind Jeff Nixon on the school’s career interception list with 16.
The Springers compiled a 72-26 record during Burton’s tenure. They qualified for the Central Region playoffs the past seven seasons. Highland Springs was region runner-up in 2001 and 2006.
Burton’s departure means four Henrico County high schools are looking for head football coaches. Gary Chilcoat (Varina), Jesse Chavis III (Henrico) and Chris Didlake (J.R. Tucker) also have resigned.

Coach Burton, has been a blessing to the Springers,as a football parent I am sad to see him leave, however I think that Coarch Burton expertise will be an added resource for the Universtiy of Richmond. Coach Burton will be truly missed by the players and parent of Highland Springs High School.
GOOD LUCK COACH!!!

I think it says alot to his credit that UR wanted him at the collegiate level. Most H.S. coaches couldn’t make a transition like that so easily.
I had the pleasure of knowing Coach Burton while I attended HSHS. He was an GREAT teacher, coach, friend, and mentor! Alot of my friends played football and it was never uncommon for Coach Burton to pop his head in and check to make sure they guys were doing “the right things”! Great job coach! You will be missed, but you taught the Springer’s what it’s like to really love Football!
Now that Coach Burton is leaving, along with some of the best coaches HSHS has had in the past four years, the football team might hit a huge blow. They will have new coaches and they might not do as well as they have in the past. I wish Coach Burton and the other coaches good luck, and I wish the HSHS football team the best of luck against Lee Davis this coming up year!
