eighth blackbird performs downtown and on campus
The University of Richmond-s ensemble-in-residence, eighth blackbird, offers an unprecedented duo of concerts–Before First Fridays- and -After First Fridays–at art6 Gallery, one of the anchor sites of the First Friday’s Art Walk, on November 2 at 6:30 and 10 pm. Known for their informal studio concerts, eighth blackbird will make their audience feel right at home in this intimate art gallery setting. Performances are free but seating is limited.
On November 7, eighth blackbird returns to the University of Richmond campus for a concert featuring the works of Stephen Hartke. Hartke’s music reflects the diversity of his musical background, from medieval and Renaissance polyphony, to the fusion of disparate elements from non-Western and popular music. The concert will include Tituli, a piece featuring five male voices, and the world premiere of Meanwhile…, a sextet written for eighth blackbird. Tickets are available through the Modlin Center Box Office.
