Thanks!
Gathered from Haduken.com:
Worst community blog: The second place winner(?) was Near West End News, which actually came with some helpful tips:
“Needs more editorial and less news clipping, cutting, and pasting.” Don’t be afraid to say how you feel, NWEN. Goodness knows the rest of us do.
If anyone wants to help out, please let us know.. Considering we work two or more jobs and barely have time for our families, let alone this site, we could use all the help we can get! :-) But we definitely appreciate the tips. If only we had more time…

I’m so glad I can finally say how I feel! You know I’ve been holding back.
I really honestly think people just voted for their own neighborhoods here - I mean, do people actually carefully read other neighborhood blogs? That would be a LOT of daily reading. (Also, lots of people skipped this question!)
Yeah, that could definitely be part of it, Susan. I enjoy skimming over the other neighborhood blogs, especially since, from time to time, there are posts relevant to NWEN that we like to add. To tell you the truth, I skipped out on a lot of the questions simply due to the length of the survey.
Still, I guess it’s a compliment to be second-last since that’ll attract some attention to our fledgling blog! :-D
Appreciate your input and thx for compiling the results!
Their probably should not have been a vote for worst community. I mean not yet anyway. Most of them are still so new. Maybe next year - we will see who is still going strong. Hopefully, everyone will be bigger and have more users posting — and of coarse more communities involved.
But I tend to think (as much as we dislike) we all read the RTD. So sometimes I think posting a link to the rtd is a little redundant — maybe that same link/post with some personal comments on how (user) felt about that article…
And as for reading other community blogs - I tend to skim over them all — Like most long time Richmonders we have all lived in one Richmond community or another..
The Flickr pictures are a pretty cool feature on this site –
Thx for your input, Eric. I like to think we take painful time in obtaining the information from the RTD among other Richmond media sites and only selecting the NWEN-specific articles so many, like yourself, simply don’t have to take the painful time to sort out the articles for themselves.
I agree that perhaps some thought should be put into our postings. Actually, wait, I have added my own accolades to their articles in quite a few of my postings. So, that being said, I’m not sure what you want. :-) However, in all honesty, I’m already spending 45 minutes to an hour every morning perusing the ‘Net to find NWEN-specific articles. For me, it’s a matter of time. Getting up at 4:30am when I’m already getting up at 5:30am is just not an option.
I’m not sure what else to do. If you have any suggestions (I’m sorry, but I didn’t see any in your comment unless I missed them other than that we’re already adding personal comments in the majority of the articles. Hard to do that with them all as sometimes there’s just not enough time in the day.), I’m all ears.
And, this is not directed to you, Eric, but I just wish people would appreciate what we all community bloggers are doing. We’re not making any money (well, at least Jonah and I aren’t). We’re putting in precious time. And, (for me), I’m actually SPENDING money to keep this site up and running. If I were a paid journalist, I’d feel differently. But, I just feel like I’ve been kicked in the head and for what? By volunteering myself out and was thinking I was doing something good for the community?
Don’t get me wrong; I’m open to criticism and plan on trying to make some changes. But we need suggestions. And, perhaps a little bit of help, i.e. those who would like to post articles directly. I know Scott over at Oregon Hill has been trying to line up volunteers to do the same thing.
Man, I hate sounding like I’m whining.
But, wow. We’ve only been up for two and a half weeks! :-D LOL!
Regards,
Kory
We’ve got 2-4 people posting on WotBN and it is still probably too much work. I think if you could get 5-8 people involved you’d really have something.
Ah well, just a matter of time and growth I guess.
Pburgpn has only one beamer-upper of ‘news’ - moi. I spent a boatload of time out of the gate introducing the site to peeps in the park service, school system, police dept, artists, yada yada. Was some work, but has paid off in that some folks are starting to forward stuff to post that might be of interest to locals. Of course, I was down to 1 job at the time…with 2 jobs, it would have been slower going to say the least.
BTW, you are doing a bang-up job finding as much info as you do to share with the community — And that calendar!!! :-)
somebody in the fan must’ve voted a bunch of times…
Don’t get me wrong — much appreciate anyone who takes time keeping a blog going. Especially, a community blog. And anyone who gets up at 5:30 a.m.
Well, I really, REALLY do appreciate everyone’s input. I hope y’all don’t think otherwise. Thx so much for your continued support and words of encouragement. Really means a lot to me and, I’m sure, to Jonah too.
Brenda, I know how much work you put in to your website. Certainly nothing short of amazing, especially for being a one-woman show. I actually heard from a few fellow/fellowette bloggers that you put a lot of work into marketing your site to the community in Petersburg which really helped your site grow as an excellent media source in your area.
Ross, I agree with your input that, perhaps, the more people posting the better. I would think if the posters are serious and consistent enough, all of our sites would serve our respective communities well. Like you said, all in due time perhaps.
loopay, LOL! I guess that’s a possiblity. :-)
And, Eric, definitely not getting you wrong. You offered some good input and, basically, lit a fire under my ass. I just need to figure out how to made the posts more interesting and add even more of a twist to them. Perhaps we could be the cynical community blog. ;-)
Thx again, all!

Kory
[...] quite a bit of flack about our site being #2 for the WORST blog in Richmond. All I had to say was “wow.” Definitely an annoyance but I was glad to see some excellent support there. I also happen to [...]
