The Times-Dispatch published an article depicting Henrico County’s police department enthusiastic support for underage drinking programs. The department also announced a new program called Operation SUDS (“Stop Underage Drinking and Sales”).

“If we can save even one young life, then all the effort is worthwhile,” Police Chief Henry W. Stanley Jr. said in a statement.

Programs designed to deter driving under the influence — including Henrico’s Party Crashers — got under way in September 2006 and have resulted in more than 400 charges of underage possession or consumption in Henrico. The programs have resulted in more than 1,000 total arrests, Stanley said.

An anonymous tip line will remain in operation 24 hours a day: (804) 614-2923.

Congratulations Henrico Police for arresting 1,000 kids and adults. My best friend’s son, who is the smartest most determined person I have ever met, did not get accepted to Dartmouth not because of his grades or his extracurricular activities but because he got charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He got this charge because he was at a house NOT drinking but there was someone there under 18 who was. Does that seem fair? Once again, good work HCPD on all the progress you have made in ruining lives. Why don’t you all try road blocks and education not this unconstitutional crusade.

As a twenty-something of legal drinking age, I still have many friends who are underage. I’m also a sociable person who enjoys attending the occasional party, and partaking in alchol. However I do so responsibly, and I mean that in all senses of the word. I drink in moderation, I don’t buy alcohol for my underage friends, and if I’m at a party and I see people who are underage and drinking, I leave. I have no pity for anyone who chooses to remain at a party when they recognize that either it’s getting too rowdy and could attract the attention of the police, or a party at which minors are consuming alcohol, or any illegal substance for that matter. It’s incredibly sad that parents have not educated their children enough, or instilled that moral compass that tells underage people that drinking is not for them at this time. And it’s incredibly sad that people like your friend pay the price not only for their friends’ irresponsibility, but don’t recognize their responsibility to themselves as well. I applaud Henrico County for their efforts, I’m quite sure they’ve saved lives, and perhaps through their efforts we won’t have another fatal incident like what took place New Years Day at Short Pump in the Far West End.

I seriously cannot wait for gang bangs to show up all over henrico county. What stupid operation will they come up with then? I’ve had my run ins with cops who seriously don’t give a crap and leave people with “lectures” because they just wanted to screw around with people. The whole system is corrupted. I know people who get out of situations just because people are family friends with those cops. IS that fair? Tip lines are for serious crimes, not for parties full of underage minors who probably are not stupid enough to even think about drinking and driving. Guess what?! NEW YEARS WAS A BLAST IN HENRICO CAUSE WE WERE SMART ABOUT IT. Congratulations Henrico. Glad you have made a ton of money from arresting everyone. The plan will never succeed. It will never stop underage drinking.
