UofR sports weekly wrap-up

Here are the following stats for various University of Richmond sports programs for this past week ending Friday, August 31st:

Men’s soccer downs Villanova [via]:

Junior Delano Pierre scored two goals in the first 22 minutes to lead the Richmond men’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory Friday over Villanova in front of a raucous opening night crowd of 2,432 at First Market Stadium.

Women’s soccer loses to Georgetown [via]:

The Richmond women’s soccer team opened the 2007 season with a 1-0 loss to Georgetown (1-0) at the American University Invitational in Washington, D.C. on Friday afternoon.

Field hockey loses to Virginia [via]:

he Richmond field hockey team used a strong come back bid to nearly take down No. 8 ranked Virginia, before falling 4-3 Thursday night at the University Hall Turf Field.

Also, via the Times-Dispatch:

Senior center Drew Crank has left the University of Richmond’s basketball program, though he will complete this school year at UR.

The oddly-timed move was made by agreement between Crank and Spiders coach Chris Mooney, each said, and announced yesterday by the school.

Crank, a lefty from Lynchburg, made nine starts and averaged 12 minutes, 5 points and 2.5 rebounds as a junior. The 6-11 240-pounder said he hopes to join UR’s tennis team. Crank was an accomplished tennis player at E.C. Glass High.
