Henrico Names New Fire Chief

Edwin W. Smith has been named fire chief for Henrico County, capping a 33-year rise through the division. Edwin W. Smith has served since 2000 as a division chief.

“We’re excited to have Ed as fire chief,” County Manager Virgil R. Hazelett said yesterday after announcing the appointment. “He will do Henrico County a very good job as we look to the future.”

Hazelett said Smith was one of six candidates from the Henrico fire division. The past two chiefs were hired from outside the county.
